This is my life...not abusing children but I have cared for abused children as a foster parent for 17 years. I have worked with many birth families during these years. Jennifer...what state are you in? Do you have an attorney? Have you talked to anyone besides the worker? Supervisor? Program Director? Do you have someone besides family that would write a letter or support or be willing to officially offer to be a mentor/support system for say 6 months? Sometimes when a bio parent can show initiative to improve the sitution for their kids, it goes a long way. I am not saying that what CPS did was right. I am saying you are now there and need to get out and re-build your connection with your kids. I have been a court appointed mentor (becuase I voluteered) for 2 of the birth families I worked with. Both times, the children were allowed to be returned home almost immediately. The situations were not imminent danger. One was a doctor with a God complex who said the parents weren't following his directions and putting the child at risk. When I got the baby, she was everything the parents said, not what the doctor said. I changed doctor's and had some tests run. The parents were right. I offered to make phone contact withis family 3 times a week for 4 weeks and then once a week for another 4 weeks. then we came back to court. The family could call me anytime and I went to the docotr with them at their request. That child is now half grown and doing great. The other family was a little different as the mom was single and had no support system at all. She spiraled down and was depressed. I called her every other day and she called me whenever she needed me....sometimes in the night. I reminded her about her medicine and she and the baby did fine. Let me know what I can do to help. at the moment i am involved in a CPS case. feb of last year i was living in an R.V. and my kids got lice from our neighbor i cut my daughters hair really short almost to bald and the school called CPS on me and they took kayla 8 (was 7) ryan 7 (was 6) and michael 3 (who was 2). i been drug testing for them i've been clean cause i don't mess with that stuff and i have done parenting classes i have moved into a 2 bedroom apartment and they gave me michael back in october of last year, i had a baby in july of last year and they opened a case on him. what makes me mad is that i am a loving mom and i know a few moms who beat their children i was abused when i was little physical, mental, verbal and i would never raise a hand to my children but yet my kids are in foster care and i see drug addicts with their kids. i see parents that should not have their kids keep their kids. my ex friend was involved in CPS last year and she was selling dope and smoking it that is why she is my ex friend when i found out she was doing that i couldn't be around that. but she got to keep her kids and i just saw her and she was selling drugs and using still i am sorry i'm just probably complaining too much.
