I am still breastfeeding my 21 month old daughter. She nurses just to go to sleep (nap time, bedtime & during the night). Any tips to help me stop? I don't know if I can just let her cry....

Hi, I'm wondering if any of you moms out there have had mastitis or a plugged duct. I ussually only work 3 days a week, but I had to work all last week. I had a hard time pumping. Now I have pain in one breast, I think she also latched wrong. Any suggestions on how to deal with these. I gave been pumping as much as possible.

Hi, I'm Effie. I'm new here. I'm a SAHM of 4. Ages 6, 3 (4 in July), 2, and 9 months. I breasfed all of my children, and am still breastfeeding my youngest.

I have a 4 month old. I'm still breastfeeding. When she was 7 weeks old I thought I was getting my period. It stopped in a few days. I haven't bleed since then. I've heard from a lot of breastfeeding moms that you usually don't your period back until you wean them. Or if you start feeding them solids. Of course every woman's body is different.

I was in the same situation with my first two. I didn't start my period again with my first until after he was weaned but started again when my second was six months. The more kids that I had, the quicker it seemed that my period would come back. I wouldn't be worried about it unless the flow seems to be heavier than normal.

Hi everyone. My name is Angela and I have a 7 week old baby names Andrew at home and a 21 month old named Michael. I am breastfeeding and started back to work on Monday. I have a question, I breasfed Michael until he was 6 months old and didn't get a period until after he was weaned. I am still breastfeeding Andrew and it looks like I am getting a period. should I be concerned? Thanks and look forward to "talking" to you.

Beth when I went back to work I used the Avent Isis at work (I think one of the best pumps out there) and at home I used a Bailey's nurture III double electric pump. I think between both they cost $100. I'm very frugal and really didn't care for spending so much on a pump. These two did the trick and I never gave my babies formula. Something important to remember. Make sure you start pumping and storing now. That way when you go back to work, you'll be ahead of yourself in case you can't pump or milk won't come out. Sometimes that happens due to stress but it doesn't mean you don't have enough. If you pump the day before or during the day for your baby you risk not having enough milk. Plan ahead and pump from the other side while you nurse. Do that at every feeding. It helps stimulate production while giving you extra to store. Even if you pump 1 oz or less at a time, put it away. I would only pump about 6 oz a day because I'm a horrible pumper but got myself prepared 3 wks before I went back to work. Calculate 6 oz every day for 3 wks. I had a nice stash to start with and didn't stress too much about pumping. Let us know if you need any more help with this. I went back to work with all my kids and never gave a drop of formula :)

I would tell him that if he thinks it's creepy, he can feel free to excuse himself to another room. Nicely. A better approach might be to introduce him to the WHO and their standards and guidelines regarding nursing ages, and the benefits of nursing to at least two.

Hi! I am Jamie, I have a wonderful 9 year old daughter and a wonderful 17 month old son. I nursed my daughter until she was 3 months and then she decided that she would rather have a bottle of formula. However my son is a total opposite, he is still nursing and I don't think he will ever give up his "boob"! I had thought of trying to wean him several times but he was a preemie and the doc says that it would be most beneficial to him if I wait until 2. I really do not have a problem with this but his dad says that it is "CREEPY"? I am not sure why. What would you ladies think if your hubby told you this while nursing? Let me know. Thanks!

I'm thinking about going back to work full time. If that happens I think i should buy a new pump.. what is the new best pump?

Mamas I'm so sorry I've been mia. I'm moving from MA to FL in a couple of days so life is horribly hectic! I'm still nursing Elias despite all the craziness. Not as much as we usually do but once we settle in to our new home we'll have a nurse in to get my milk supply flowing again (wishful thinking lol)

Hi, I'm Amanda and currently nursing my second who is 3 1/2 weeks old. My first daughter nursed until she turned one (she's now 2 1/2), which was my goal, and she was ready to be done. She lost interest by that point. I also worked through that time and pumped at work so she never needed formula. Aside from some soreness in the beginning with both girls, breastfeeding has been extremely rewarding. I used a blanket when nursing my first in public, and she always pulled it off. I got a Hooter Hider with this one, and I love it!

Hi, I'm Marjorie. I'm currently nursing my 6th (gasp) baby. He's 7 months old and finally popped his first tooth last week. He's already bitten me but after a couple of gasps, I think he finally got the idea it wasn't ok. The longest I've nursed was 13 months but that was because my oldest just had had enough. Shortest was a month but that was because doctor's told me she was digesting the milk properly (really long story). I welcome any questions you might have.

Hi my name is Cheryl. I'm nursing my 4 month old daughter it has been so rewarding for me. In fact it beats getting up in the middle of the night to mix formula. I am planning to nurse to my daughter is 1 yr. So far it has been great. Although she has two teeth already! But we have had no problems so far.

I could probably use one of those Hooter HIder's eventually, but right now my little girl is a homebody and is uncomfortable anywhere I take her, so we haven't had to do any nursing in public, if I do take her out I try to make it a short trip, otherwise she's wailing!

Like I said, I love my "hooter hider". We can go to the park and Lucas can run around and I can nurse Zoe and no one can see a thing. I like it b/c she can't kick it off like with a blanket. I can't tell you how many times I've nursed while eating out in restaurants or while walking around the tot lot at the mall with her nursing away under the hider. BEST invention ever for those not 100% comfortable just "whipping it out". lol And no, I'm not getting paid from the company to say these things. HAHA

Thanks for the encouragement. I hope to be an extended nurser, I couldn't with my first because I didn't have a choice but to go back to work and I wasn't comfortable doing the pumping at work, plus I took on a 3rd shift job and knew that I would have a hard time maintaining a good diet....I'd be lacking alot of sleep and needing alot of caffine. For a few months we nursed just a couple times a day. I weened him at 9 months.

I have no problem nursing in public as long as I have a blanket. I use a blanket around anyone thats not in my household :) Well except my mom, but anyone else I'm always using a blanket.

Kudos to both of you Kristina and Beth. I'm an extended nurser. My Thaddeus weaned at 3.5 and I'm currently nursing a 21 month old - Magdalena. What would you like to know? The most challenging thing I've done was nurse through pregnancy. Re: nursing in public - I'd fight for anyone's right to do it, loudly, but it's not for me. I'll nurse in a sling, or under a blanket or shirt, but I don't like to show. I don't hide anymore either.

How do you all feel about nursing in public? I will admit I had a very hard time at first. I was so embarassed but once I had my 4th I said the heck with it, if a nipple shows then so be it lol. But I do understand how difficult it can be for some moms to nurse comfortably in public

02/02/08 09:26 PM, Brenda wrote:

Kristina good for you for keeping up with breastfeeding your preemie! I don't blame the baby. Formula is nasty lol, she's a smart one :) Many mamas would've given up and you're sticking with it. Congratulations! You are giving your little lady the best there is. You're an inspiration :) I had a slow weight gainer too.

Welcome! I'm Brenda, nursing my 2 yr old Elias a few times a day and at night (grrrr..lol) No end in sight, I'll let him decide. This is the first time I nurse past 2 yrs. My other kids nursed until a year or less. I never used formula (I'm too lazy..lol) and when I went back to work I did the pumping thing. Not anymore thank goodness. I have 4 kids and crazy me wants another baby to nurse, but that's craziness. Any other mamas who nurse past a year? I'd love to know more about it :)

Hi, I'm Kris and I have a 3 month old daughter that I am nursing. She also is a slow weight gainer, she was born 6 wks early and underweight and for the first almost month of her life, I had to pump and mix with formula and bottle feed, but now we nurse most of her feedings. I still have to give her about 4-8oz of formula a day and she isn't fond of it, but she's got to have the extra calories. Its been pretty rough, but I don't regret one bit. I'm just glad I had my 2yr old son first and nursed him for 6 months before having this one. God was looking out for me there.

Hi! I'm Beth and am currently (in fact at this VERY moment as I type this) nursing my 3 month old daughter. She's a slow weight gainer, so we are also supplementing with about 8 oz of formula a day. I'm actually giving her the bottles in between our "regularly scheduled" bf sessions, as to not disturb our bf relationship. It hasn't been an easy road so far, but we are all getting into our groove. I also have an almost 4 year old, so all I can say is THANK GOD for the Hooter Hider! :)
