The world, at least those of us in America on traditional school year calendars, is in "back to school" mode. It would probably be fair to say that we are on high-alert. Every store, commercial and mailer is preaching the gospel of school supplies and new pants as if it is the second coming.
We need notebooks and pencils and glue and scissors and, and, and...
When I was a kid this stuff was provided by the school. I didn't own a backpack until the 6th grade. Everything I needed for elementary school fit nicely in my Trapper Keeper. I think anything that anyone really needs still does. Trapper Keepers held a lot of stuff.
I hope the money being saved by the school district is going to something useful, like teacher salaries and music programs. I doubt it, but it's a nice thought.
The thing about all of this craziness surrounding back to school is that we aren't going "back to school," we're just going to school- for the first time.
My oldest is starting kindergarten on Monday which makes this weekend one of the most bittersweet of my life. I don't need Target to rub it in.
But we do need erasers.
