I was wondering what ideas other parents have for a finicky eater. My daughter (2.5 yrs) seems more and more to be extremely picky on what she likes to eat.
We have tried, corn, chicken, pancakes, french toast, yogurt, cereal, etc.
My brother only ate a few things for some time growing up: hot dogs, balogna, cucumbers, pb&j, beets (lol) and DRY rice crispies with a glass of milk on the side! Keep offering to them, but do not be overbearing about it. I did see a show where they were putting pureed veggies into things like cookies and such so that kids would still get the nutrition that way. Also, give them their vitamins!
At that age, my kids all went on peanut butter and jelly binge...lol...I was concerned too. Their Dr told me that they were healthy, so keep offering them something different but not to worry if they only wanted the one thing, they would eventually move on to other foods. They did, and she will too. I read once that you have to offer a new food 3 times before a kid will recognize it and decide if they really like it. Keep it up, sounds like you're doing fine.
When it comes to vegetables, fruits and meats that your child might not like, you can disguise them. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it don't. Vegetables and meats can be place together in soups, stews. Sometimes you can sneek them in with something els you made for them. :) Try chicken tacos, or baritos. Make little pizza pockets, and add corn, chicken, ect., in them. You can do the some with fruit. Your child is 2.5 years old, so play food games, making it fun for your child to eat. Reward them, not with more food, but with a hug, a kiss, ect. What ever you give to your children, make sure you don't give too much, it might overwhelm them. Hey, I'm a mom and a grandma. ;) I tried it all. When it comes to fruits and vegetables, you can always make juices, and give it to them. With fruit, put some whipcream, honey, chocolate syrup, or chocolate spinkles over the fruit, but not too much. You don't want to give them too much sugar. When it comes to pancakes and french toast, put some funny cartoon faces over them, using whipcream and fruit. You can even use a cartoon iron that you can get in stores or on the internet, that puts faces on your pancakes, toast, waffles, bread. Make the doller size pacakes and little french toast for them. Cut your bread in 1/4 slices, and then make the french toast. Sometimes, this along can change the minds of your children. What might not seem too much for us might overwelm the little ones. ;) As for cereals....they might not like one kind, but might like another kind. You just have to experiment. Remember when you was a child? You liked and disliked somethings, maybe differant cereals. Try to put your self in that state of mind, and think about what you liked and disliked, what you might like as a child. Of course, all children are differant, with differant taste. Experiment with an open mind, and I hope some of these suggestions will help and work for you. May peace, love, and happiness be with you and your family.
