i have a 11 year old stepson that we don't see but 2 or 3 times a year. when i is with us his tongue is al to pieces. he rubs it and chews on it with his teeth. His mom said it was growth spurts but i don't believe that. How can we get him to open up? and tell us what is really wrong, or could he simply just not know?

He is probably all stressed out. Only getting to see you a couple times a yr. Maybe emotions running over from his mom being hesitant to give up 'her baby' for these visits. And she may not even realize he senses it. When he does visit make sure you do the things he like/ get on his level. He is at the stage where every question feels like he is being interrogated. Precious boys.

i would deffinetly try to see him more, so he feels more comfortable with you, and then ask him.

You can reassure him that you are there for him. And let him know that it's ok to talk with you. It will be hardwer though since you only see him a few short times a year. If you suspect something else then please do not wait. Talk with your husband. And see what else you can do to get more involved in his life. It's obvious you care so much for you step son.
